MyNMBI Review

NMBI's Ask

“NMBI would like to conduct a technical review and validate the design and implementation of the agreed features of MyNMBI. This review is to verify that the technical architecture and development is to a design and standard that one would expect of a solution of its type.  NMBI requires the services of an experienced consultant/architect to perform the review.”

“EastPoint established their credentials and credibility. I had an expression I wrote about EastPoint, expertise with integrity. It’s a massive thing for them, and for me. The integrity piece.” Joe Hussey

Who are NMBI?

The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) is the statutory body which sets the standards for the education, registration and professional conduct of nurses and midwives.  Their function in safeguarding the public involves establishing and maintaining the Register of Nurses and Midwives, permitted to practice in Ireland

What is MyNMBI?

NMBI’s Registration system, branded as MyNMBI was launched in September 2020. It is the core system of record for the 80,000+ registered nurses and midwives in Ireland.  MyNMBI is built on Microsoft Dynamics 365 with Microsoft Power Automate, Azure LogicApps and Azure Functions.  The customer facing portal leverages The Portal Connector (TPC). Reporting is delivered by Microsoft PowerBI.  The document repository is SharePoint Online.  Office 365 integration is part of the current solution.  Payments are managed by Global Payments (Realex).

What were we asked to do?

Following a Public Procurement, NMBI engaged EastPoint’s Assured Delivery Consultancy Services to conduct a review of the MyNMBI system across several key areas; Quality Assurance, Portal, Maintainability, Data Integrity, Security and Configuration. The scope was to examine the design and implementation of MyNMBI and to verify the technical architecture and development met best practice.

What did we do?

EastPoint Solutions took a structured and methodical approach to provide an optimal solution to the NMBI. We mobilised our Assured Delivery Team to work with NMBI’s business and technology stakeholders. This approach allowed us to navigate effectively through decisions, documents, and deliverables. We provided the NMBI with the data, and facts to make informed decisions.

The first thing I would say about their work is, very professional. Exactly what you want from that type of dispassionate exercise; forensic. We got a report that was very clear, unambiguous, forensic. Unarguable.

Who is Joe Hussey?

Joe Hussey is the NMBI digitization manager. He has been working for the NMBI since January 2020. A graduate of Trinity College Dublin, Joe has brought extensive technology sector experience to this role. He has previously worked for a range of indigenous and multinational companies such as Fineos, MetLife, Standard Life and VHI, as IT Director, Business Planning, IT Risk and Security EMEA and Product Manager.  He is currently planning the future journey for the next generation of MyNMBI.

What does Joe Hussey say? (Extract from an interview with Joe Hussey July 2022)

I am in NMBI two and a half years now and we are trying to plan a future journey for the next generation. Where we are going with MYNMBI, our portal and our backend.

Essentially I am taking our system which was launched in 2020, teeing it up for the next generation’s future capability.

We were working on a review of the system, so basically get under the bonnet and establish how the system met best practice.

The first thing I would say about their work is, very professional. Exactly what you want from that type of dispassionate exercise.  We got a report that was very clear, unambiguous, forensic. Unarguable.

EastPoint only worked on this for a short period of time, weeks.  We got exactly what we were looking for. But I think more than that.

What EastPoint have done, they have done such a good job. A good job in how they presented themselves and how they were perceived in the organisation.

I’m always interested in how the business, the organisation, perceives independent advisors because we work for the business. So the business’s reaction, or impression of EastPoint – was like mine, trustworthy, do what you say on the tin, EastPoint knew what they were talking about 100%.

We are going on a journey and I see them as being part of that journey. They have already established their credentials and credibility. I had an expression I wrote about EastPoint, expertise with integrity. It’s massive thing for them, and for me. The integrity piece.

“We got exactly what we were looking for, but more than that. EastPoint did such a good job. A good job in how they presented themselves and how they were perceived inside the organisation.”

As long as you are getting the truth you can deal with it. A lot of us have been around, we’re used to working on projects, and projects often don’t go along any straight paths, there are curveballs. There’s things that go wrong, unforeseen and you just have to take action. But if there is no integrity, the ground isn’t sure under your feet.

That’s the core ingredient, when it comes to future work. Reliability and dependence, and that core integrity. And obviously the word expertise is there as well. Let’s be honest, integrity without that expertise is nice and all, but I am hard nosed, I want to succeed on behalf of my business. At the end of the day we have to deliver. EastPoint are expected to assist on this journey.

You know, it is not touchy feely!
